Dongseongno or Dongdaegu Station?
Daegu has two good bases, and they do different jobs. The old downtown around Dongseongno puts you among Seomun Market, the modern-history alleys and Yangnyeongsi; Dongdaegu Station puts the KTX, metro Line 1, the intercity buses and the airport bus in one place. Here is how to choose.
The verdict
For a first visit, the markets and the alleys, choose Dongseongno: both of KTO's Jung-gu walking courses are here, Seomun Night Market runs from Friday to Sunday on KTO's 2023 page, and Jungangno, Banwoldang and Seomun Market stations cover the district. For early or late trains, a flight, Palgongsan or a day in Gyeongju, choose Dongdaegu Station: the KTX, metro Line 1 and the express and intercity buses share one transfer centre, the airport is about 15 minutes by bus 101 or 401 (KTO), and bus 101-1 with a change to Palgong 1 reaches Donghwasa. Two nights? Take one of each, joined by Line 1.

Questions visitors ask
Is Dongseongno or Dongdaegu better for a first visit?
Dongseongno. Both of KTO's Jung-gu walking courses are there, from Seomun Market and Kim Kwangseok-gil to the 1.32 km modern-history alley walk past Gyesan Cathedral, and Jungangno, Banwoldang and Seomun Market stations cover the district. Dongdaegu is the better base for transport, and metro Line 1 joins the two.
Which is better for an early train or flight?
Dongdaegu Station. DaeguTour describes its transfer centre as a one-stop transfer between the KTX, the metro and express and intercity buses, and KTO puts Daegu International Airport about 15 minutes away by bus 101 or 401. The Incheon Airport limousine also ends at Dongdaegu Terminal, about 4 hours from the airport by KTO's 2023 figure.
Which is better for Palgongsan?
Dongdaegu. Dong-gu Office lists bus 101-1 from Dongdaegu Station with a change to Palgong 1 for Donghwasa Entrance, and Palgongsan has been Korea's 23rd national park since December 2023. From downtown, Daegu Station has bus 101-1 with a change to Palgong 1 or Express 1 for the same stop, so the old downtown works for a mountain day too.
