Gyeongpo or Gangneung Station?

Both are good first bases in Gangneung, and they suit different trips. Gyeongpo puts you on the coast, between the beach, the lake and Ojukheon, with Anmok's Coffee Street on the same road; Gangneung Station puts you at the end of the KTX line, by Jungang Market, Wolhwa Street and the Danoje parade. Here is how to choose.

The verdict

For the sea, the lake and Joseon heritage, choose Gyeongpo: VisitKorea describes the beach as a sand bank between Gyeongpoho Lake and the ocean, Gyeongpodae is about 1 km away, Ojukheon and the Heo memorial park fill a morning, and Coffee Street in Anmok is on the same coast road. For a trip without a car, a short stay or Danoje week, choose Gangneung Station: the KTX from Seoul ends there, the Donghae Line runs south from it, and the old town has Jungang Market and the Daedohobu. Two nights? Take one of each.
