Chinatown and Wolmido or Songdo?

Both are city bases in Incheon, and they show two different centuries. Chinatown and Wolmido put you in the port that opened in 1883, at a terminus of Seoul Subway Line 1; Songdo puts you in a new city of towers, a seawater park and ConvensiA, on Incheon Subway Line 1. Here is how to choose.

The verdict

For a first visit, history and the island ferries, choose Chinatown and Wolmido: KTO dates Chinatown to the opening of Incheon Port in 1883, the Open Port Museum is about ten minutes on foot from Incheon Station, and buses 12 and 24 run from Dongincheon to Yeonan Pier. For business, conventions and a modern city stay, choose Songdo: ConvensiA is, in KTO's words, the ideal venue for MICE, Central Park is, KTO says, the first seawater park in the nation, and Incheon Bridge runs to the airport island. Coming from Seoul by subway, Chinatown is the direct ride; arriving by road from the airport, Songdo is the short hop: KTO puts ConvensiA about 20 minutes away.

Questions visitors ask

Is Chinatown or Songdo better for a first visit to Incheon?

Chinatown and Wolmido. KTO dates Chinatown to the opening of Incheon Port in 1883 and calls the quarter an open-air cultural and historical museum, and its walking course links Wolmido to Sinpo International Market in about 4.71 km. Songdo suits a second night, a business trip or a convention at ConvensiA.

Which is closer to Incheon Airport?

Songdo. By road, KTO puts ConvensiA about 20 minutes from the airport, and its 2023 figure for the Songdo International Business District by public transport is about 1 hour 30 minutes. By rail, Songdo is one change from the Airport Railroad, to Incheon Subway Line 1 at Gyeyang; Chinatown takes two, at Gyeyang and Bupyeong.

Which is better for the island ferries?

Chinatown and Wolmido. Yeonan Pier is in the same Jemulpo-gu quarter, and buses 12 and 24 from opposite Dongincheon Station take about 30–40 minutes, the Incheon Port Authority says. Sailing status is set at 06:30 on the day, so a night by the open port makes an early boat easy.
