Hongdae or Seongsu?

Seoul's two creative neighbourhoods, both on Line 2. Hongdae is youth, music and late nights; Seongsu is converted factories, pop-ups and flagship stores. One is right for a night owl, the other for a design lover.

The verdict

For nightlife, live music and an easy airport run, choose Hongdae: Club Street, buskers and dance performers, Yeonnam-dong's cafés, and AREX in its own station, so the airport train takes you to your door. For design, cafés, pop-ups and a calmer evening, choose Seongsu: one of Seoul's most influential trend-setting districts, with cafés and galleries in converted factories, Korea's largest handmade shoe district and Seoul Forest, open 24 hours and free. Hongdae wins after dark; Seongsu wins in daylight.

Is there an airport bus to Seongsu?

Yes. Limousine 6013 runs between Incheon Airport and Seongsu, stopping at Seongsu E-mart, Seong-su 119 Center and Konkuk Univ. By rail, take AREX to Hongik University and change to Line 2 for Seongsu or Ttukseom.
