Bomun Lake Resort
보문관광단지
Gyeongju's lakeside resort district, with Gyeongju World and direct buses from the KTX.

The short answer
Stay at Bomun if you want space and a lake view. VisitKorea calls Bomun Tourist Complex the international tourist district of Gyeongju: a resort area about 10 km east of downtown, centred on Bomunho, a man-made lake popular with cyclists and walkers, with a luxury hotel of international scale, family condos, a golf range and walking paths. The lake path is on the city's barrier-free course, suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs, and Gyeongju World's rides, summer water park and winter snow park are on Bomun-ro. In April, with the cherry blossoms out, this is the place to be.
Bomun is also the easiest base from the train. Routes 700 and 710 run direct from Gyeongju Station (KTX, formerly Singyeongju), and since 2023 the corridor has a bus about every 30 minutes. Buses 10 and 11 link the lake with Bulguksa one way and the old town the other. The trade-off is the evening: the night sights are in town, so after Wolji Pond you ride back.
Best for
- Families and Gyeongju World days
- Cherry blossoms in April
- Arrivals by KTX
- Lakeside walks and cycling
- Wheelchair users and pushchairs
Think twice if
- Night sights on foot
- Old-town streets and cafés outside the door
- Late nights in town after the last bus

From Gyeongju Station (KTX)
Two direct routes connect the station with the resort. Route 700 runs from the station to Bomun and on to Bulguksa, and route 710, added in February 2023, runs between the station and Bomun Tourist Complex 14 times a day, from 07:25 at the station to a last departure from Gyeongju World at 22:20. Together they give the corridor a bus about every 30 minutes, so Bomun is the simplest base to reach from the train.
From Seoul
Take the KTX from Seoul Station to Gyeongju Station, around two hours by VisitKorea's figure, and change to route 700 or 710 for the lake; SRT tickets are sold to the same station. By express bus from Seoul Express Bus Terminal you arrive at Gyeongju Express Bus Terminal downtown, where buses 10 and 11 start for the Bomun stops.
From Busan
The express bus from Busan Central Bus Terminal, at Nopo Station on Busan Metro Line 1, reaches Gyeongju Express Bus Terminal in about 50 minutes; change there to bus 10 or 11. By rail, KTX-Eum trains on the Donghae Line have run from Bujeon to Gyeongju since 30 December 2025, and routes 700 and 710 take you from the station to the lake.
From Gimhae Airport
VisitKorea gives the intercity bus from Gimhae Airport to Gyeongju Intercity Bus Terminal as about an hour. Buses 10 and 11 start at the terminal from 06:00 and run about every 20 minutes to Bomun Tourist Complex and Gyeongju World, passing Bunhwangsa on the way.
On your doorstep
- Bomunho Lake A man-made lake of 1,652,900 m² in the east of Gyeongju, popular with cyclists and walkers and open 24 hours. In spring the cherry blossoms are reflected in the water.
- Bomun lakeside path Part of the city's barrier-free travel course and suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs. The city's tourism site streams live cameras of the lake and the Bomun water wheel.
- Bomunjeong Pavilion A small pavilion and pond ringed by cherry trees, on the lakeside blossom walk that also takes in Hoban Plaza.
- Gyeongju World The amusement park at 544 Bomun-ro, with the California Beach water park in summer, a snow park in winter and the Bazaar District.
- Bunhwangsa Temple On the bus 10 and 11 route between Bomun and the old town, and part of the UNESCO Hwangnyongsa Belt.
- Hwangnyongsa Temple Site The ruins of what UNESCO calls the largest temple ever built in Korea, in the same Hwangnyongsa Belt as Bunhwangsa.
- Bulguksa Temple Buses 10 and 11 run direct from Bomun to the Bulguksa stop, the turning point of the route, and route 700 continues there from the KTX side.
- Seokguram Grotto Bus 12 runs from Bulguksa to the Seokguram car park, about three minutes' walk from the ticket office; the grotto opens at 09:00.
- Daereungwon and Cheomseongdae Buses 10 and 11 run from Bomun to the Wolseong-dong Community Centre stop, the stop for Cheomseongdae and Daereungwon.
One easy day from here
- Morning Walk the lakeside path from Bomunjeong; in April this is the cherry-blossom walk.
- Late morning Take bus 10 or 11 to Bulguksa and change to bus 12 for Seokguram.
- Afternoon Ride bus 10 or 11 back past Bunhwangsa to the Wolseong-dong Community Centre stop for Cheomseongdae and Daereungwon.
- Evening See Donggung Palace & Wolji Pond before the 21:30 last admission, then take a taxi back to the lake: the last bus 10 or 11 leaves the downtown terminals at 21:40.
Before you book
- April is Bomun's big month: VisitKorea says the complex draws crowds when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, so book April lakeside rooms first.
- Book near a stop on route 700 or 710 and you go from the KTX station to the lake in one ride, without touching the town centre.
- Plan evenings around the bus: Wolji Pond takes last visitors at 21:30 and the last bus 10 or 11 leaves the downtown terminals at 21:40, so a night in the old town ends with a taxi back.
- Travelling with a wheelchair or pushchair? The lake path is on the city's barrier-free course.
- For a spring stay, the city's live cameras of Bomun Lake on its tourism site show you how far the blossom has come before you book.
Questions visitors ask
Is Bomun Lake a good base without a car?
Yes. Routes 700 and 710 run direct from Gyeongju Station (KTX), and buses 10 and 11 connect the lake with the old town and Bulguksa about every 20 minutes, starting from the downtown terminals at 06:00. The one gap is late evening: the last 10 or 11 leaves the terminals at 21:40.
Can I walk from Bomun to Daereungwon?
No. Bomun is about 10 km east of downtown. Take bus 10 or 11 to the Wolseong-dong Community Centre stop, which serves Cheomseongdae and Daereungwon, and it passes Bunhwangsa on the way. From the stop, Cheomseongdae, Gyerim Forest and Wolji Pond follow on foot as one walking course.
When are the cherry blossoms at Bomun Lake?
From late March to mid-April, with April the peak. Korea Tourism Organization ranks Bomun Lake among the best cherry-blossom spots in the country, the lakeside walk takes in Hoban Plaza and Bomunjeong pavilion, and the Gyeongju Cherry Blossom Marathon is held in April.
