Seomyeon
서면
Busan's transport hub, where Lines 1 and 2 meet beneath the shopping streets.

The short answer
Stay in Seomyeon if you want the most practical base in Busan. Seomyeon Station is the official transfer between Lines 1 and 2, so Line 2 takes you to the beaches at Gwangalli and Haeundae and Line 1 to Busan Station, City Hall, Nampo and Jagalchi, with no further change. It is also the quickest area to reach from Gimhae Airport by rail, about 30 minutes, and Airport Limousine 2 stops right at the station.
Above and below the station, Seomyeon is a city-centre district rather than a resort. The Seomyeon Underground Shopping Center runs beneath the streets, Ion City connects to the Line 2 platforms, and Jeonpo Café Street sits near the main strip. VisitKorea calls Seomyeon a hub for things to see, eat and explore. Metro announcements come in Korean, English, Japanese and Chinese, and a birdsong marks every transfer station.
Best for
- Short trips covering both beaches and the old downtown
- The quickest airport connection by rail
- Rail-heavy itineraries
- Cafés, shopping and city-centre evenings
- Business travel
Think twice if
- Waking up beside the sea
- A resort-style beach holiday
- Travellers after quiet streets at night
Getting here
| Station | Lines |
|---|---|
| Seomyeon | Lines 1 and 2 |
| Bujeon | Line 1 |
From Gimhae Airport
Two good options. By rail, take the Busan-Gimhae Light Rail from Airport Station to Sasang, about six minutes, then Line 2 to Seomyeon: about 30 minutes in total, the quickest airport run in Busan. By coach, Airport Limousine 2 runs from the airport to Seomyeon Station (Lotte Department Store) and on to Bujeon, about 50 minutes for the full route, from 07:20 to 21:30, every 60–80 minutes. Buy tickets on the Bustago app or at the kiosk near Gate 4. A taxi takes about 40 minutes.
From Busan Station (KTX)
Line 1 runs from Busan Station to Seomyeon with no transfer, and Seomyeon is where you change to Line 2 for Gwangalli and Haeundae, so you are always one ride from your train. Travellers on KTX-Eum from Seoul Station or Cheongnyangni arrive at Bujeon, the district Airport Limousine 2 pairs with Seomyeon, rather than at Busan Station.
On your doorstep
- Seomyeon Underground Shopping Center Fashion, clothing and assorted goods beneath the streets, open 10:00–22:00 and closed on the first Tuesday of each month.
- Jeonpo Café Street A former hardware district near Seomyeon's main street, now lined with cafés in renovated houses, factories and warehouses, at 92 Dongcheon-ro, Busanjin-gu. The New York Times put it on its 52 Places to Go in 2017 list.
- Ion City Linked to Seomyeon's Line 2 station by a connection passage opened in 2007.
- Busan Citizens Park About a 20-minute walk from Seomyeon Station Exit 13, or 18 minutes from Bujeon Station (Line 1) Exit 7.
- Seomyeon Medical Street A concentration of clinics in Bujeon-dong.
- Bujeon Market A stop on Airport Limousine 2, alongside Bujeon Station on Line 1.
- Hwangnyeongsan Mountain Named by VisitKorea as a highlight near Seomyeon, and an official viewing spot for the Busan Fireworks Festival.
- Gwangalli Beach Ride Line 2 east to Gwangan Station and take Exit 3 or 5 for the sand and the Gwangan Bridge night view.
- Jagalchi and Gukje markets Line 1 runs from Seomyeon to Jagalchi Station for one of the largest seafood markets in Korea, and to Nampo for Gukje Market.
One easy day from here
- Morning Start at Jeonpo Café Street, then walk to Busan Citizens Park, about 20 minutes from Seomyeon Station Exit 13.
- Midday Take Line 1 to Jagalchi for the seafood market, then browse Gukje Market in Nampo.
- Afternoon Ride Line 1 back to Seomyeon, change to Line 2 and head east to Gwangan for the beach.
- Evening Stay for Gwangan Bridge lighting up, or the drone show on Saturdays, then return to Seomyeon on Line 2.
- Late Browse the underground shopping centre before it closes at 22:00.
Before you book
- Book within a short walk of Seomyeon Station. It is the transfer between Lines 1 and 2, so staying close puts both lines at your door.
- Arriving by coach? Airport Limousine 2 stops at Seomyeon Station (Lotte Department Store); a stay near that stop turns the airport trip into one ride.
- Coming in on KTX-Eum? You arrive at Bujeon, not Busan Station, so a stay towards Bujeon suits you best.
- Seomyeon is the smart base for fireworks weekend: Gwangalli is a direct Line 2 ride away and you sleep clear of the beachfront road closures. The festival is held in autumn, in early November in recent years, and on 7 November in 2026.
- The underground shopping centre closes on the first Tuesday of each month, so plan your shopping day around it.
Questions visitors ask
Which subway lines serve Seomyeon?
Lines 1 and 2. Seomyeon is the official transfer station between them, which is exactly why it makes such an efficient base: Line 2 runs to Gwangalli, Centum City and Haeundae, and Line 1 runs to Busan Station, City Hall, Nampo and Jagalchi. Wherever you are heading in this guide, it is one ride.
Can I get from the airport to Seomyeon without changing trains?
By rail you change once, at Sasang, from the light rail to Line 2, and the trip takes about 30 minutes. For no change at all, take Airport Limousine 2, which runs straight to Seomyeon Station (Lotte Department Store) every 60–80 minutes, first bus 07:20 and last 21:30 from the airport. Cash is not accepted; use the Bustago app or the airport kiosk.
Is Seomyeon a good base for a first visit to Busan?
Yes, especially on a short trip. From Seomyeon you reach the beaches on Line 2 and Busan Station, Nampo and Jagalchi on Line 1 without a second transfer, and the airport is about 30 minutes away by rail. What you give up is the sea outside your window; for that, choose Gwangalli or Haeundae.
When is the Seomyeon Underground Shopping Center open?
From 10:00 to 22:00 every day except the first Tuesday of the month, when it closes. It runs beneath the streets around the station, so it doubles as a sheltered route on a wet day.
