Gwangalli
광안리
Busan's night-view beach, with Gwangan Bridge lit up across the bay.

The short answer
Stay in Gwangalli if you want Busan's best evenings. The beach runs 1.4 kilometres west of Haeundae, known for its fine sand, with Gwangandaegyo Bridge spanning the water in front of it, and the city sells it on exactly that: magnificent night views of the bridge. The 1,250-metre Theme Street follows the coast, restaurants, cafés and bars line the main strip, and on Saturday nights the drone light show fills the sky. VisitKorea says it plainly: this is where countless young people gather.
Gwangan Station on Line 2 serves the beach from Exit 3 or 5, and the same line runs straight to Seomyeon in one direction and Haeundae in the other. VisitKorea names Gwangalli, with Haeundae, as one of the two places in Busan home to many guesthouses. It is also the stage for the Busan Fireworks Festival every autumn. Book here for the atmosphere; book Haeundae for the bigger resort.

From Gimhae Airport
Rail is the answer for Gwangalli. Take the Busan-Gimhae Light Rail from Airport Station to Sasang, about six minutes, then change to Line 2 and ride east to Gwangan Station; VisitKorea puts the whole trip at about 50 minutes. Leave by Exit 3 or 5 for the beach. Airport Limousine 1 runs past BEXCO and the Busan Yachting Center but has no Gwangalli stop. A taxi from the stand on the second floor of the international terminal takes about 70 minutes.
From Busan Station (KTX)
Take Line 1 from Busan Station to Seomyeon, change to Line 2 and ride east to Gwangan Station, then walk to the beach from Exit 3 or 5. It is a single transfer, at Busan's main interchange, and the same route takes you back for your train. Travellers on KTX-Eum arrive at Bujeon rather than Busan Station.
On your doorstep
- Gwangalli Beach 1.4 kilometres long and 25 to 110 metres wide, known for its fine sand and open 24 hours. Gwangan Station Exit 3 or 5 leads to it.
- Gwangandaegyo Bridge The double-deck sea bridge linking Suyeong-gu with Haeundae-gu, and the source of the beach's famous night views.
- Gwangalli Beach Theme Street A 1,250-metre street along the coast in three sections: Romantic Street, Sunrise Square and Youth Street.
- Gwangalli Café Street The café strip VisitKorea names as the Theme Street's neighbour, made for an afternoon with a sea view.

- Hwangnyeongsan Mountain Named by VisitKorea as a viewing spot for the Busan Fireworks Festival.
One easy day from here
- Morning Start on the water: Gwangalli is a hub for SUP, yachting and surfing, with the SUP Zone right off the beach.
- Midday Head to Millak Waterfront Park, between Gwangalli and Haeundae, and eat at Millak Raw Fish Town.
- Afternoon Walk the Theme Street's Romantic Street, Sunrise Square and Youth Street, with a coffee stop on the Café Street.
- Evening Stay on the sand as Gwangan Bridge lights up; on Saturdays the drone show starts at 20:00, or 19:00 from October to February.
- Late Finish in one of the bars on the main strip, or ride Line 2 to Seomyeon for a later night.
Before you book
- Book near Gwangan Station: Exit 3 or 5 leads to the beach, and Line 2 runs from the same station to Seomyeon and Haeundae.
- Make the view the priority. A room facing the bay puts Gwangan Bridge's lights in your window, and that is the reason to stay here.
- The Busan Fireworks Festival is held every autumn along Gwangalli Beach, and it is the biggest night of the year here. Recent editions fell in early November, and the 2026 festival is on Saturday 7 November. Book that weekend early.
- On festival day the beachfront shuts to traffic: in 2025 Gwanganhaebyeon-ro closed in sections from 10:00 and Gwangnam-ro closed to all vehicles, buses included, from 18:00. Arrive by Line 2 and reach your room before the closures.
- The swimming season is July and August: 1 July to 31 August in both 2025 and 2026. Outside it, Gwangalli is about the views, cafés and marine sports.
Questions visitors ask
Is Gwangalli or Haeundae better to stay in?
Choose Gwangalli for evenings and Haeundae for the beach holiday. Gwangalli has the bridge view, the Saturday drone show, the fireworks and a livelier crowd, it sits closer to Seomyeon on Line 2, and its rail trip from the airport is shorter, about 50 minutes against 70. Haeundae has the bigger beach, Dongbaekseom Island and a direct airport limousine.
When is the Gwangalli drone show?
Every Saturday at 20:00 and 22:00, and at 19:00 and 21:00 from October to February. It is free, and Gwangalli Beach is the place to watch it, with Gwangan Bridge lit up behind. Stay in the area and the show is a stroll from your door rather than a trip across town.
When is Gwangalli Beach open for swimming?
July and August. The official season ran from 1 July to 31 August in both 2025 and 2026, with swimming hours of 09:00 to 18:00 in 2025. The beach itself is open 24 hours all year, so outside those months it is for walking, cafés, night views and marine sports.
What happens on Busan Fireworks Festival day?
Gwangalli becomes the centre of Busan. The festival is held every autumn along Gwangalli Beach, with further viewing at Igidae and Dongbaekseom. In 2025 the fireworks ran 19:00–20:00 with pre-events from 14:00, Gwangnam-ro closed to all traffic from 18:00 and Gwangandaegyo Bridge closed in the Haeundae-to-Nam-gu direction. The 2026 edition is on 7 November. Travel by subway that day.
