Andong Old Town
안동 구시가지
The jjimdak alley, the region's oldest market and the Maskdance Festival on your doorstep.

The short answer
Stay in Andong's old downtown if food and the festival are the point. The Old Market, Gu-sijang, sits in the centre of the original town and is the oldest market in the region, and its jjimdak alley holds around 30 restaurants devoted to the braised chicken the market made famous. Each autumn the Maskdance Festival takes over the old downtown, Mask Dance Park and Jungang Line 1942 Andong Station, so a room here puts you close to the festival venues.
Know one thing before you book: Andong Station is not here. Since 17 December 2020 the KTX-Eum station has stood in Songhyeon-dong, next to the intercity bus terminal, and the Old Market is about 20 minutes away by bus. For evenings of food and festival, stay downtown. For an early train or a day of city-bus trips to Dosan Seowon and Bongjeongsa, stay by the station, where the first bus leaves at 06:10.
Best for
- Jjimdak dinners in the Old Market alley
- Maskdance Festival nights
- Early KTX-Eum departures, from a station-side room
- City-bus day trips to Dosan Seowon, Bongjeongsa and Manhyujeong
- Arrivals by intercity bus
Think twice if
- A night inside a hanok village
- Hahoe's lanes after closing time
- Walking from a downtown room to the train

Before you book
- Pick one of two bases before you book: the old downtown for food and the festival, or the Songhyeon-dong station area for early trains and city-bus day trips. They are about 20 minutes apart by bus.
- Read the address, not just the words "Andong Station" in a listing: the station moved to Songhyeon-dong on 17 December 2020, next to the bus terminal, and the Old Market is a 20-minute bus ride away.
- For the Maskdance Festival, book downtown and book early. The venues are the old downtown, Mask Dance Park and Jungang Line 1942 Andong Station, not Hahoe; recent editions ran 26 September – 5 October 2025 and 24 September – 4 October 2026.
- Taking the first bus to Dosan Seowon? Stay by the station: Express 3 leaves the station area at 06:10.
- Bound for Hahoe the next morning? A station-side room saves the ride in from town, and Express 2 leaves the station area from about 07:20–07:30.
