Heyri & Paju Book City
헤이리·출판도시
Paju's art village and book town: galleries, workshops, publishers and bookshops.

The short answer
Stay in Heyri for Paju's creative side. VisitKorea describes Heyri Art Valley as a neighbourhood of inspiration, creative workshops, exhibitions, festivals and education in the creative arts, and says it grew when artists gathered during the development of Paju Book City. Paju City calls it a community village of creators and artists from many fields, and lists the Heyri Museum of Modern History of Korea, a theme museum founded in 2015. Entry to the village is free and so is parking, VisitKorea notes, while each gallery and shop sets its own hours and closing days.
Paju Book City is the other half of this base. VisitKorea's 2025 guide calls it a cultural complex home to Korea's leading publishers, printing houses, cafés, museums and bookstores, around Munbal-dong, and the same guide notes its Hangeul sculptures and benches. Start at the Forest of Wisdom, 145 Hoedong-gil, where a large bookshelf is shaped like Hangeul consonants, and add the Letterpress Museum from the same guide.

From Seoul
Drive, or take the train. A car is the simplest way to see both the art village and Book City in one day, and VisitKorea lists free parking at Heyri Art Valley. By rail, Heyri's own 2022 guide sends visitors to Geumchon Station on the Gyeongui Line, with a local bus for the last stretch. Bus directions written before 29 November 2025 describe the old route: Paju City split the direct bus route from Seoul into two routes that day.
From Incheon Airport
Incheon Airport's night bus N5700 runs to Geumchon Station, where Heyri's own 2022 guide starts its local bus to the village. It leaves Terminal 1 at 00:30 and 04:10 and reaches Geumchon in 90 minutes; from Terminal 2 it leaves at 00:10 and 03:50 and takes about 20 minutes longer. Going back, the N5700 leaves Geumchon Station for the airport at 21:30 and 00:10.
By car
Set the navigation for Heyri Art Valley at 70-21 Heyrimaeul-gil, Tanhyeon-myeon, where VisitKorea lists free parking and free entry to the village. For Paju Book City, the Forest of Wisdom at 145 Hoedong-gil is the place to start; VisitKorea's 2025 guide places the book town around Munbal-dong.

Questions visitors ask
Is Heyri a good base in Paju?
Yes, for art, books and museums. VisitKorea describes Heyri Art Valley as a neighbourhood of creative workshops, exhibitions, festivals and arts education, with free entry and free parking, and Paju Book City as a cultural complex of publishers, printing houses, cafés, museums and bookstores. For the DMZ Peace Tour, stay in Munsan instead: tickets are sold only at Imjingak from 09:00.
What is Paju Book City?
A cultural complex home to Korea's leading publishers, printing houses, cafés, museums and bookstores, around Munbal-dong, according to VisitKorea's 2025 guide. Its Forest of Wisdom, at 145 Hoedong-gil, has a large bookshelf shaped like Hangeul consonants, and the same guide lists the Letterpress Museum and the town's Hangeul sculptures and benches.
Is Heyri free to visit?
Entry to the village is free, VisitKorea says, and so is parking. Each gallery, workshop and shop inside sets its own hours and closing days, so treat the village as a walk between the places you choose rather than a single attraction with one timetable.
How do I get to Heyri without a car?
By train to Geumchon Station on the Gyeongui Line and a local bus from there, as Heyri's own 2022 guide describes. The direct bus from Seoul that older guides describe changed on 29 November 2025, when Paju City split it into two routes, so use directions dated after that day. Late at night, bus N5700 runs from Incheon Airport to Geumchon Station.
