Gohyeon
고현
Geoje's bus terminal town, with the POW Camp park and Gohyeon Market close at hand.

The short answer
Stay in Gohyeon if you are arriving and leaving by bus. Gohyeon Bus Terminal is where VisitKorea's transport listings bring buses in from Seoul Nambu, Dong Seoul, Daejeon, Dongdaegu and Busan, and it is the starting point for its city-bus directions to Hakdong, Dojangpo and Wahyeon. The Geoje POW Camp Historic Park is in Gohyeon-dong, on the site of what VisitKorea calls South Korea's largest prisoner-of-war camp, and Gohyeon Market, which VisitKorea's Korean site calls Geoje's largest and best-known traditional market, has a live-fish market and a five-day market.
The trade-off is the coast. VisitKorea's Korean site puts Hakdong about 1 hour 5 minutes and Dojangpo, for Windy Hill and Sinseondae, about 1 hour 23 minutes from the terminal by city bus, and none of the seven Oedo boat docks is in Gohyeon. Choose it for a night between buses, for Korean War history, or as a base with a car; choose the coast for the sea.
