Danyang-eup
단양읍
A town on a bend of the Namhangang: Gosu Cave, the Jando Trail and KTX trains from Seoul.

The short answer
Stay in Danyang-eup, the county town, where Danyang Tour says the river runs through the town centre between the Sangjin and Danyang bridges. Gosu Cave, a Natural Monument, is one kilometre from Danyang Intercity Bus Terminal by VisitKorea's figure, and the Danyanggang Jando Trail runs along the Namhangang cliffs with a bird's-eye view of the river, lit after dark at weekends. VisitKorea calls Danyang Korea's most famous cave region, and its 2021 article places the Daenuri Center, a culture complex with an aquarium, in the centre of Danyang.
The big views lie outside town: Dodamsambong's three rock peaks rise from the Namhangang in Maepo-eup, and Mancheonha Skywalk looks down from the river cliffs in Jeokseong-myeon. Danyang is on the Jungang Line KTX, which Korail listed as a stop on the Cheongnyangni–Andong service in December 2020; VisitKorea's December 2021 article gave the trip from Cheongnyangni as 1 hour 20 minutes. Buses from Dong Seoul took 2 hours 5 minutes in VisitKorea's December 2021 article and about 2.5 hours in its January 2025 article.
