The short answer

Stay in Giheung-gu for the Korean Folk Village. VisitKorea says it introduces traditional culture from the late Joseon period, and its 2025 guide counts over 270 structures, from noble homes and farmhouses to government buildings, with costumed performers, the Korean Folk Museum, the World Folk Museum and a Pottery Exhibition Hall. Yongin City calls it an outdoor folk museum, and its own site dates the opening to 3 October 1974. A night nearby puts you at the gates at 10:00, with the whole day ahead of you instead of a ride out from Seoul.

Of the two Yongin bases, this one has more ways in. The Folk Village's site lists Seoul buses 5001-1 from Sinnonhyeon Station, 1560 from Gangnam Station and 4101 from Sungnyemun, and buses 37 and 10-5 from Exit 3 of Sanggal Station, its nearest station on the Suin-Bundang Line, and from Exit 4 of Suwon Station. Two Incheon Airport buses end here: the A8877 by day and the N8877 late at night. And Giheung Station, where the Suin-Bundang Line meets the EverLine, puts Everland on the same rails.

Best for

  • A full day at the Korean Folk Village, from opening
  • Arriving on the A8877 or N8877 from Incheon Airport
  • Friday and weekend evenings at the Folk Village
  • Pairing the Folk Village with Suwon's Hwaseong Fortress
  • Travelling without a car

Think twice if

  • Opening time at Everland
  • Rides, a safari and a water park

From Incheon Airport

Two airport buses end at the Korean Folk Village. By day, the A8877 runs via Gwanggyo Central Station, Heungdeok District and Singal Ogeori (Folk Village site; VisitKorea, 2025). Late at night, the N8877, which airport.kr announced as a new route in October 2024, leaves Terminal 1 at 00:30 and 04:10 from stop 7A-5 and takes 70 minutes; from Terminal 2 it leaves at 00:10 and 03:50 from B1 gate 40 and takes 90 minutes. Back to the airport, it leaves the Folk Village at 21:30 and 02:00.

From Seoul by bus

The Folk Village's site lists three Seoul buses: 5001-1 from Sinnonhyeon Station, which VisitKorea's 2025 guide places on Line 9; 1560 from Gangnam Station to the Folk Village entrance stop; and 4101 from Sungnyemun. Take whichever starts nearest to where you are in Seoul.

From Seoul by rail

Ride the Suin-Bundang Line to Sanggal Station, which the Folk Village's site calls its nearest station, and take bus 37 or 10-5 from Exit 3; VisitKorea's 2025 guide gives the same route. On Line 1, ride to Suwon Station instead, where the same two buses leave from Exit 4.

From Everland

Take the free shuttle to Jeondae Everland Station and the EverLine back to Giheung Station, about 30 minutes for the whole line by Gyeonggi Province's 2013 figure. Change there to the Suin-Bundang Line, ride to Sanggal Station and take bus 37 or 10-5 from Exit 3 to the Folk Village.

On your doorstep

  • Korean Folk Village At 90 Minsokchon-ro, Giheung-gu. VisitKorea's place page lists it as open all year, 10:00–18:00 from Monday to Thursday and 10:00–22:00 on Fridays and at weekends; its 2025 guide gives 10:00–18:30, extended to 22:00 on night-operation days. The village's own site dates its opening to 3 October 1974.
  • The Joseon-era houses Over 270 structures, from noble homes and farmhouses to government buildings, in VisitKorea's 2025 count. VisitKorea's place page describes them as restored houses of the Joseon dynasty, and Yongin City calls the whole village an outdoor folk museum.
  • Korean Folk Museum and World Folk Museum Two museums inside the Folk Village, listed in VisitKorea's 2025 guide alongside a Pottery Exhibition Hall.
  • Performances Costumed performers work across the village, says VisitKorea's 2025 guide, which names the performances at WanHyangRoo Pavilion and the Yeonbun show. The place page adds folk music.
  • Hanbok rental VisitKorea's 2025 guide lists hanbok rental inside the village, so you can spend the day in traditional dress among the Joseon-era houses.
  • Classes and seasonal events VisitKorea's place page lists classes and seasonal events alongside the houses and the folk music, part of its picture of a village that introduces late-Joseon culture to local and international visitors.
  • Everland In Pogok-eup, Cheoin-gu, at the far end of the EverLine from Giheung Station: about 18 km and 30 minutes in Gyeonggi Province's 2013 figures, then a free shuttle from Jeondae Everland Station, the final stop (VisitKorea, 2026).
  • Hwaseong Fortress, Suwon Buses 37 and 10-5 link the Folk Village with Exit 4 of Suwon Station, and VisitKorea's 2024 Korean guide puts the fortress about 15 minutes from the station by bus. VisitKorea dates the fortress's UNESCO World Heritage listing to 12 December 1997 and lists it as open 24 hours, all year.

One easy day from here

  1. Morning Take bus 37 or 10-5 from Exit 3 of Sanggal Station and be at the gates when the Folk Village opens at 10:00.
  2. Late morning Rent a hanbok if you want to dress for the day, then explore the Joseon-era houses, the Korean Folk Museum, the World Folk Museum and the Pottery Exhibition Hall.
  3. Afternoon The performances: WanHyangRoo Pavilion and the Yeonbun show, both named in VisitKorea's 2025 guide, with folk music around the village.
  4. Evening On Fridays and at weekends, VisitKorea's place page keeps the village open until 22:00. On other days, ride bus 37 or 10-5 to Suwon Station for Hwaseong Fortress, which VisitKorea lists as open 24 hours.

Before you book

  • Landing late at Incheon? The N8877 leaves Terminal 1 at 00:30 and 04:10 and ends at the Folk Village 70 minutes later (airport.kr). A stay here turns a night arrival into a morning at the gates.
  • Buses 37 and 10-5 are the local link, from Exit 3 of Sanggal Station and Exit 4 of Suwon Station (Folk Village site). Book within easy reach of one of those two stations.
  • For the evening hours, come from Friday to Sunday: VisitKorea's place page lists 10:00–22:00 on Fridays and at weekends, against an 18:00 close from Monday to Thursday.
  • Doing Everland as well? Giheung Station is where the Suin-Bundang Line meets the EverLine (VisitKorea, 2025), so one night here and one by Everland gives each park a full day.
