Sangju & Geumsan
상주·금산
Silver sand under Geumsan, and the drive up to Boriam for sunrise.

The short answer
Stay in Sangju for the sunrise at Boriam. The hermitage stands on Geumsan, which rises behind Sangju Silver Sand Beach, and both are in Sangju-myeon. Boriam opens daily at 03:30, and VisitKorea's advice is to stay a night and watch the sunrise from Geumsan. Below the mountain, the beach runs for about 2 km of white sand in shallow water that is popular with families, backed by pines that Namhae County puts at about a century old, and VisitKorea lists campgrounds, shopping streets and accommodation nearby.
This is a base for drivers. Sangju lies about 22 km south of Namhae-eup, where the intercity buses arrive, and Boriam is reached by a mountain road to the Bokgok car parks. Mijo Port, the Seolli Skywalk and the terraced fields of Daraengi Village are all a drive away. Pick up a hire car near the terminal in Namhae-eup, and make Sangju your base for the south coast.
